Charles Bremer
Charles Bremer’s
work has been exhibited in galleries, museums and
art centers both in the U.S. and internationally.
His art includes a diverse range of practice from
photography and drawing to sound sculpture
installations, outdoor memorials and architectural
projects. His work often explores a synthesis of the
natural elements with the human body. He has been
responsible for creating numerous exhibitions on the
theme of environmental forces and issues, as well as
for designing unique educational programs. Bremer’s
work with experimental sound and music has a unique
focus on instruments activated by the natural
forces: wind, fire, and water. He has his studio and
workshop on Briar Creek Road in Otego, New York.
Karen Elting
Originally from Connecticut, Karen Elting has lived
and worked in Oneonta since 1978. She studied at
Smith College in Northampton, MA, and received a BA
in Fine Art and Anthropology from SUNY Oneonta in
1984. Elting has also studied watercolor, drawing,
and composition with the artists Jack Beal and
Sondra Freckelton. In 2006, she was asked to write
an introduction for the catalog accompanying the
Freckelton/Beal retrospective exhibition at the Fine
Art Gallery at SUNY Oneonta.
Primarily
a figurative artist, Elting’s work has been
exhibited in juried shows both regionally and
nationally, including the Cooperstown Art
Association, the National Arts Club and the
Salmagundi Club in New York City, and the Arnot Art
Museum in Elmira, New York. In May of 2002,
American Artist magazine’s drawing issue
featured Elting’s work, saying in part “At once
revealing and mysterious, the drawings...ignite the
imagination.”
Karen
Elting currently serves on the advisory boards of
the Upper Catskill Community Council of the Arts and
the Gallery at SUNY Oneonta. She also volunteers on
the boards of directors of the Friends of Bassett,
the College at Oneonta Foundation, and Planned
Parenthood of South Central New York ( the latter as
co-chair). She and her husband, Dr. James Elting,
have five children and seven grandchildren. |
