At The Arc Otsego, many people, with many different skills, all work together to create opportunities for individuals with intellectual and other developmental disabilities to live rich, full lives.  Listed below are examples of the kinds of jobs that people do at The Arc Otsego.

Bus Driver

This position is based in Hartwick, NY.  You will transport individuals with developmental disabilities to various sites throughout Otsego County.  Hours vary depending on full time or part time with schedules Monday-Friday.

Qualifications:  High school diploma, GED or college degree.  Clean CDL license and eligible for 19A Certification and pass a DOT drug test and physical.

Bus Driver/Mechanic

This position is based in Hartwick, NY.  You will transport individuals with developmental disabilities throughout Otsego County and repair diesel and gas powered automotive equipment and adjust repair air brakes.

Qualifications:  High school diploma, GED or college degree.  Clean CDL license and eligible for 19A Certification and pass a DOT drug test and physical.

Bus Monitor

You will be part of a team that transports individuals with developmental disabilities from Hartwick, NY to various sites throughout Otsego County.  Your duties include assisting individuals riders as needed, tracking attendance and maintaining route records.  Hours are 6:45 am-9:45 am and 2pm-5pm Monday-Friday. 

Qualifications:  High school diploma, GED or CNA; valid NYS driver license and ability to frequently lift or transfer 50 lbs.

Community Service Provider

You will assist individuals with intellectual and other developmental disabilities to realize their dreams at home and in the community, afternoons and weekends. Flexible hours, travel required.

Qualifications:  High school diploma, GED or CNA; valid NYS driver license and ability to frequently lift 50 lbs.

Direct Support Provider: Residential Services

You will assist individuals with intellectual and other developmental disabilities living in a residential setting to achieve their dreams.  As a direct support professional, you will wear many hats.  You may be a companion, advisor, cook, personal assistant, mentor, troubleshooter, chauffer and teacher.  Depending on the individual's needs, you may assist with everything from budgeting, to passing medications, to assisting with daily living skills, to helping individuals with personal care. You will work as part of a team, in a variety of settings, and have the satisfaction of knowing that you have made a positive difference in another person's life. 

Qualifications:  High school diploma, GED or CNA; valid NYS driver license and ability to frequently lift 50 lbs.  Direct Support Professionals with CNA or LPN certification receive wage commensurate with education.

Individual Program Coordinator-Residential Services

Working as part of a team, you will be responsible for the overall service delivery, development and monitoring of person-centered program plans for individuals living in a residential setting and will train employees to properly implement the plans. You will make sure that program plans meet the physical, social and developmental needs of each person and there there is a plan to protect each person's health, dignity, safety, comfort, well-being, civil, human and legal rights.

Qualifications:  Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university in a health service field and one year of related experience, excellent communication skills, valid NYS Driver License and ability to lift and transfer at least 50 lbs.

Employment Specialist

You will assist individuals with developmental and other disabilities to achieve their employment-related dreams.  You will develop ongoing relationships with community employers, schools, workers and other advocates, assist individuals in making the transition from school to work and coach individuals in learning new jobs, obtaining or maintaining employment and learning job skills.  Must have good writing skills, excellent interpersonal kills and work well with a team.

Qualifications:  High school diploma, valid NYS driver license, ability to lift 50 lbs. and prior experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities.  Preferred:  Bachelor's degree.

Physical Therapist

Responsible for completing assessments, developing treatment plans, training staff and providing hands-on therapy to individuals with developmental disabilities.  Work as part of an interdisciplinary team, including participation in the team development of the Individual Service Plan for each person.  Flexible hours

Qualifications:  NYS license, valid New York State Driver License, clear criminal background and Medicaid Fraud Exclusion checks and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Shift Coordinator:  Residential Services

You will supervise a team of employees who provide services and support to individuals living in a residential setting.  As the team leader, your responsibilities include:  ensuring delivery of quality services, acting as a role model for employees, assisting the Home Manager and providing direct care as needed.

Qualifications:  High school degree or GED, valid NYS driver license, the ability to lift 50 lbs.

Preferred:  Associate's degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school, one year supervisory experience and/or one year working with people with developmental disabilities.

Registered Nurse: Residential Services

Your responsibilities include functioning as an inter-disciplinary treatment team members, serving as a liaison with other community service providers, and monitoring and delivering medical services.  Flexible hours.

Qualifications:  Registered Nurse in the state of New York, valid NYS driver license.  Preferred:  Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities.

Speech Pathologist

Full or Part-Time position.   You will provide counseling, guidance and language therapy for and diagnose and treat speech and language problems of people with developmental disabilities. You will also review treatment plans and assess individual performance to modify, change or write new programs. This position required the use of sign language when appropriate and provides other forms of augmented communication to individuals as needed.

Qualifications:  New York State licensure as a Speech and Language Pathologist, completion of Clinical Competencies (CCC), valid NYS Driver License, and knowledge of internet use and Microsoft Office applications.

 

Vocational Counselor

As a Vocational Counselor, you will work in a team environment to help individuals with developmental disabilities at our Vocational Training Center develop the skills necessary to be successful in a work environment.  Specifically, you will develop and write vocational habilitation plans and develop goals and will be responsible for the coordination of program plans for approximately 27-32 individuals, ensuring that the plans meet the vocational, physical, social and developmental needs of each individual. You will also conduct assessments, train support staff and provide guidance to individuals working in the Vocational Training Center.  Full-time, M-F.

Qualifications:  Bachelor's degree in Human Services or related field, one year of experience working with people with developmental disabilities, proficiency in computer skills including Microsoft Office, and experience working in a team-based environment.  Must have a valid NYS Driver License and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
